Permitted Fruit

Why "forbidden" fruit? Couldn't it be a permitted fruit? And why are forbidden things enticing, is it just a simple matter of scarcity or rarity that changes a simple fruit to a deep dark desire? I think as far as fruit go, pomegranates should always be permitted if not encouraged!
